What is Mail Zapper?
Mail Zapper Pro is spam e-mail detection software for personal use which run independently of your e-mail program and allow you to take full control of your incoming electronic mail. You don't need to do anything except set up e-mail accounts and set up a list of friends. When you execute Mail Zapper it will automatically check for spam e-mail at your server and you tell Mail Zapper how aggressively it should treat the spam it detects.

Mail Zapper for Outlook (not Express), integrates directly with Microsoft Outlook to monitor your Inbox as new mail arrives  It is as easy to use as Outlook itself.

If you like more of a “hands on” approach to the handling of the types of spam you receive Mail Zapper Pro allows you to customize special filters for this purpose. All version have an auto-update feature which keeps you spam free by automatically downloading updates as they become available, and Mail Zapper does not interfere with e-mail virus protection software.

What type of accounts  does Mail Zapper support?

Mail Zapper Pro supports POP3, IMAP, AOL, Hotmail and MSN accounts.  For AOL enter the server as IMAP.AOL.COM and select IMAP as the server/account type.

Mail Zapper for Outlook will handle any account/server that is setup in Outlook.

You can use Mail Zapper Pro with a Yahoo! account if you are subscribed to Yahoo! Mail Plus which provides access to Yahoo! mail through third party e-mail software programs.  Please visit www.yahoo.com for information about Yahoo! Mail Plus.

When I ask Mail Zapper Pro to delete a message or group of messages why does Mail Zapper sometimes take so long to complete this?

When Mail Zapper deletes, or kills, a message, it does so at your e-mail server. Because of this it must wait for server response before indicating completion of this task. If it should be at a time that your e-mail server is experiencing heavy traffic this could cause Mail Zapper’s response to be delayed as well.

Can I download the Mail Zapper version for Windows ME/2000/XP and run it on a Windows 95/98 operating system?

This is not recommended. The Mail Zapper installation for Windows 95/98/NT contains components that Mail Zapper requires which may not be provided with these operating systems. If you install a Mail Zapper version that is not compatible with your operating system Mail Zapper may not work properly.

With Mail Zapper Pro what do the icons at the beginning of each message line represent?

The message has been accepted by Mail Zapper.
The message meets one or more conditions for possible spam.
The message meets one or more conditions for possible spam and has been deleted at your e-mail server.

If a message has been accidentally deleted can I recover it?

With Mail Zapper Pro as long as the message is still visible in the main window you can  click "View Message" from the toolbar to preview the message, then select “Save” from the message preview toolbar.  This will save the message that was accidentally deleted in a format that can be read by your e-mail program, or if you prefer you can simply save it as text.  If the message is a very large message you may loose some parts of it.  If you have selected to retain deleted messages for a specified number of days you can click on Setup then E-Mail Processing Options and click on the Manage deleted messages.  This window allows you to view and/or restore messages.

Mail marked as spam by Mail Zapper for Outlook is placed in a special folder so it is available until you delete it.

Why doesn't Mail Zapper Pro detect my spam e-mail?

There can be several reasons for this.  The most common cause is the settings in E-Mail Processing Options for Spam Detection Aggressiveness.  Higher settings detect more spam lower settings detect less spam.  The highest setting accepts mail from friends only.

With Mail Zapper Pro when I click on "Check Mail" why do I see the message "Cannot connect to server"?

There can be several reasons you see this message.

1)  You are not connected to the internet.

2) You did not correctly specify your e-mail server in the Mail Zapper E-Mail Accounts setup screen.

Do this: Start up Mail Zapper, click on Setup then select E-Mail Accounts.  From the e-mail accounts list select your account then click on the Properties button.  Check the settings you have for Incoming Server, Username, Password and Account Type.  Make sure they match the server settings you have set up in your regular e-mail program.

3) Your e-mail server may be busy and Mail Zapper timed-out trying to connect.  Wait a few minutes and try again.
